Amazing Love
AUTHOR: Joshua Goodling
I was thinking today of how amazing God's love is for us, and even the fact that He does love us! There are many songs written about the love of our God, but few of them describe it better than the 2 that I've been singing over in my mind all day.
I think the chorus to Frederick Lehman's "The Love of God" expresses greatly how difficult and impossible it is for us to fully describe the love of God.
Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade,
To write the love of God above,
Would drain the ocean dry.
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.
And that is an awesome song, and I love to sing it and think about the words.
I also feel the words to John W. Peterson's song; "O Glorious Love" really reveal how amazing God's love for us is:
In my darkness Jesus found me,
Touched my eyes and made me see.
Broke sin's chains that long had bound me.
Gave me life and liberty
Oh amazing Truth to ponder,
He whom angel hosts attend.
Lord of Heaven, God's Son what Wonder!
He became the sinner's friend.
O Glorious Love of Christ my Lord Divine.
That made Him stoop to save a soul like mine.
Through all my days and then in heaven above,
My song will silence never,
I'll worship Him forever,
And praise Him for His Glorious Love!
I've been thinking over this song all morning and it just boggles the mind how God could love someone such as me.
Look at the words to that 2nd verse; "Oh amazing truth to ponder...". Almighty God. The one to whom angels attend. The Lord of HEAVEN! The Son of GOD!! Such an awesome and amazing person - and yet HE became the sinner's friend!!!!
Never in all of history has such an opposite attraction been made! GOD, the creator, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, the One who never in all of eternity sinned even one time! Yet He stooped as low as possible and loved us enough to send His only Son to die on the cross for us!
That is just beyond human comprehension!
"O Glorious Love of Christ my Lord Divine. That made Him stoop to save a soul like mine."
How can we not love Him in return? How can we not freely give Him everything in our lives and serve Him with all our vigor? How can we not obey and honor Him?
Charles Wesley said it best; "Amazing love! how can it be That Thou, My God, shouldst die for me."
