The Greatness of God

AUTHOR: Joshua Goodling

This past Sunday (Father's Day), I spoke at the Bible Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia. I spoke on Knowing our Heavenly Father. My message had basically 3 parts to it:

1. How Great God Is. To be truthfully honest, we as human beings cannot even begin to grasp nor understand the greatness of God. He is the only true God. Holy and Sovereign beyond our ability to comprehend.

2. God Never Changes, and Is In Control of Everything. Not only is our God Holy and Sovereign. He also never changes! Like the words in the song "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" that tell us there isn't even a "Shadow" of change in God - not even the slightest hint.

And my 3rd point: Even though God is Omnipotent, Holy, Sovereign, the Creator, King of Kings and Lord of Lords - He still wants and desires a personal relationship with each of us!!

I used the illustration that a King, President, or Ruler in our world would never even think of going down to the poor sections of their country and finding the average or less than average person and desire to befriend them. Yet we have the King of Kings - Almighty God - who loves each of us and wants to be our closest friend! It is, as the song writer put it, "Amazing Love!"

Amazing love! How can it be that thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

Well, yesterday I witnessed firsthand the awesome power of God.

A couple of weeks ago, I ordered 5000 copies of my "One Week To Live" brochure about my life story.

Well, all day yesterday - it looked like it would rain at any moment. I left my office at the usual time and arrived home. On my way home, I noticed a couple of sprinkles here and there, but no rain.

When I got to my home, on the front porch I found 4 large cardboard boxes containing all 5000 of my printed brochures. I quickly moved them all inside.

As soon as I got them all inside and shut the door, it started to pour down rain. It was just a matter of seconds, and then it was coming down in buckets!! If all of those brochures had been out there in the rain, most of them would probably have been ruined!

God obviously held off the rain until I was able to get home and get them inside. Even though I did not know they would be arriving on that certain day.

God is so amazing!
